Modern sports rookies only compare when checklist, parallel, numbering, and autograph flags match. Local shops that buy modern well will refuse vague "same player, same year" comps and ask for the exact card before quoting a number.
How collectors price this locally
Decision rules for shopping at a local card shop — not live quotes. Confirm recent sold comps before you buy or sell.
- Numbered parallels need the exact print run and parallel name. Base rookies are a different market.
- Raw vs graded comps are not interchangeable. A PSA 10 ask is not a raw buy offer.
- Break chatter and social hype are not sold comps. Prefer recent cleared sales with the same checklist line.
- Team and player collectors care about different inventory depth — ask what the shop actually turns.
- If the shop quotes without looking at the back for numbering or without confirming the parallel name, keep walking.
- Autograph and memorabilia rookies need the same checklist discipline. A sticker auto and an on-card auto are not interchangeable comps.
