Graded modern sports slabs
Graded modern sports cards price on label, grade, cert validity, and the exact checklist line inside the holder. A PSA 10 ask is not a raw buy offer, and population reports explain supply — they do not replace recent sold comps for the same cert family and grade.
How collectors price this locally
Decision rules for shopping at a local card shop — not live quotes. Confirm recent sold comps before you buy or sell.
- Raw and graded comps are not interchangeable. Decide which market you are in before you negotiate.
- Confirm cert authenticity and holder condition. Cracked or cloudy slabs change the deal even when the grade label matches.
- Population reports are supply context, not a price quote. Use recent sold auctions for the same grade and checklist line.
- Cross-company grades are different markets. Do not average PSA, BGS, and CGC asks into one number.
- If the shop will not let you inspect the cert and surfaces under good light, do not buy high-dollar slabs there.
- Modern chase slabs move with player hype. Prefer cleared sales after the hype spike, not peak social screenshots.
