- In-print booster boxes at healthy shops should sit near retail. Large premiums on current Standard product are a warning sign.
- Rotation and bans move Standard singles faster than eternal staples. Confirm the card is still legal for the format you play.
- Foil treatments are not automatic premiums if the local Standard room does not chase them.
- Ask how often the shop updates Standard case tags after spoilers, bans, or rotation. Stale walls mean stale quotes.
- Preorder and release allocations are store logistics, not national fair-market proofs. Compare to recent sold sealed after the first week.
- Bring a short want list. Format players get better answers than collectors shopping by vibe alone.
