Reserved List Magic is a liquidity and authenticity market more than a Standard-style staple market. Local shops that actually want RL inventory will talk condition, authenticity tells, and cash-versus-credit before they quote. Shops that only dabble often underbid or over-ask because the cards do not turn in their room.
How collectors price this locally
Decision rules for shopping at a local card shop — not live quotes. Confirm recent sold comps before you buy or sell.
- Confirm the exact printing and condition band before you compare any sold listing. RL names are not one fungible market.
- Buylist spreads on RL are wide on purpose. Expect a real gap between cash offers and case asks.
- Authenticity and alteration risk rise with dollar value. Prefer shops that will inspect under good light and discuss tells.
- A shop without eternal players may not be the right buyer even if their modern binder is excellent.
- Trade credit can beat cash when the shop needs specific RL pieces for collectors who already shop there — ask what they are hunting.
- Do not treat online ask walls as comps. Recent sold listings for the same printing and condition are the baseline.
