Comics card shops

Plenty of card shops carry comics, and plenty of comic shops carry cards — the two hobbies share a customer, a supply chain, and a grading culture. What that combination usually means in practice is a shop with strong back-issue depth and reasonable card supplies, rather than a specialist singles operation in either. CardShopMap currently lists 732 comic shops across 48 states and 557 cities.

What to look for in a comic shop

Written by us, not supplied by anyone. No shop pays to appear in this section.

Which side of the business is the real one

Ask. A comic shop with a card case is a different proposition from a card shop with a comic rack, and the pricing quality follows the focus.

Back issues organised and bagged

Sorted, bagged, and boarded boxes mean somebody works the back-issue side every week. Unsorted long boxes on the floor can hide bargains, but they also mean nobody has checked condition, so price accordingly.

Shared supplies stocked

Mylar, bags, boards, penny sleeves, and top loaders in the same shop is a good sign: it means both counters get restocked rather than one being an afterthought kept for the odd customer who asks.

Questions to bring to the shop

CardShopMap doesn’t answer these — the shop does. Ask before you buy or sell.

Which is the bigger part of the business, comics or cards?
Do you grade or submit either?
How often does the card case get restocked?
