Selling at a card show can make sense when you have cards several dealers actively want: graded stars, vintage, clean modern chase cards, sealed product, or sport-specific inventory. Multiple buyers in one room can reveal demand faster than calling shops one at a time. Check the events calendar for upcoming shows, then review whether the show attracts the category you are selling. A small local TCG tournament may not be the right room for vintage baseball, and a sports show may not value a Magic binder correctly.
A shop is usually better when you want a controlled appointment, need help evaluating a large unsorted collection, or prefer a single accountable buyer.
