Slabbed sports cards can be worth paying more for when authentication, grade confidence, protection, and resale liquidity matter. This is especially true for expensive vintage, commonly counterfeited cards, high-grade modern rookies, and cards where small condition differences change value sharply. Use graded-card local buying hubs or sports card shops to inspect slabs in person, but verify the certification and compare the same grader and grade before accepting the sticker.
The premium is not always justified. A low-value modern card in a slab can cost more because of grading fees than because collector demand is strong.
